FAQ's
I have tried to answer the most common questions below, but if there is anything else you would like to ask me - please do get in touch via email: sally@mycalmlife.co.uk
What is hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a naturally occurring state that we all experience at various times almost daily.
It has also been described as a relaxed and almost meditative state of mind akin to daydreaming or that wonderful feeling just before sleep, when your body feels heavy, but your mind is alert.
Sometimes called a trance, it is a state where a therapist makes suggestions for positive changes in your behaviour, thoughts, and feelings.
These become embedded into your unconscious mind.
This can then directly impact your usual habits or behaviour which may have been self-limiting, decreasing your chances for successful change.
What can hypnotherapy successfully treat?
Hypnotherapy is a complementary therapy that can be extremely successful for disrupting bad habits and negative mindsets. It can be excellent for helping to resolve issues such as:
-
Stopping Smoking
-
Weight Loss
-
Resolving Phobias
-
Anxiety and Stress
-
Low self-esteem
-
Skin Conditions
-
Pain management
Do I give up control when I am in a hypnotic state?
No, instead you are in a state of highly focused attention like when you are fully absorbed into a film, book, or hobby.
It's a deeply relaxing process where your hypnotherapist takes you on a journey where you take control of future change with their guidance.
You can emerge from a hypnotic state at any time if you wish, and you cannot be made to do anything that does not fit with your higher best interests or your core values.
Do you feel different when under hypnosis?
As hypnosis is deeply relaxing, most feel comfortable and peaceful while in a hypnotic trance.
You can still hear, move and speak if you wish.
It is not unusual to lose track of time or allowing your mind to wander without care.
How does a session unfold?
At the start of a therapeutic session, your hypnotherapist will discuss your goals, why and what you would like to change.
There are various methods for inducing a hypnotic trance state and your therapist will decide which method will be most successful for you based on your consultation.
Once the session concludes you normally feel energised, uplifted and calm with positive energy and renewed outlook.
Can hypnotherapy be done virtually online?
Yes, it certainly can! Since COVID-19 many therapists have been doing virtual sessions which remain just as effective as in-person sessions. Provided that you are in a quiet, comfortable space without distractions and interference from other people you can get equivalent results virtually although I prefer to work 1:1.
Is hypnotherapy suitable for children?
Yes, it is perfectly safe for children.
It can help with exam stress, sleep issues, bed-wetting, phobias and self-esteem.
Children are also very open unconsciously which makes hypnotherapy particularly effective to treat emotional and behavioural issues, especially important in this era of social media.
How do I choose a hypnotherapist?
It is important to choose a hypnotherapist who has trained with a recognised organisation. Don’t be afraid to ask to see their qualifications or ask if they are a member of a professional body.
